Arizona School for the Arts (ASA) is a non-profit college preparatory/performing arts school. Since 1995, ASA has been setting the standard for academic achievement and artistic excellence as one of Arizona's first non-profit charter schools.
ASA students spend morning instructional hours immersed in core academic studies and their afternoons involved in the performing arts. The school fosters a culture of excellence and respect which serves as the foundation for all curricula and campus activities.
In 2008, the continuous high demand for an ASA education -- and the desire to become a pillar of the Phoenix downtown arts and educational community -- propelled the school to purchase two buildings near the Central/McDowell intersection.
As one of the top schools in the state of Arizona for the past decade, ASA is expanding its footprint through a multi-phased plan. During Phase One, the school's 3rd street building just south of McDowell now known as "Arizona School for the Arts Main Campus" was renovated offering 150 new students an ASA education in 12 new classrooms. As a result of Phase Two, the campus continued to expand at ASA Main with four new classrooms along with offices accommodating the entire administration. Now in Phase Three, ASA completed renovations on its building at 215 E. McDowell Avenue, ASA McDowell North, in August 2011, purchased the undeveloped corner lot on 3rd street and McDowell, and has started construction on a new four-story building scheduled for completion in March 2012. The school will soon serve approximately 800 students in the 5th - 12th grades.
ASA will continue its longstanding partnerships with outstanding arts organizations- Phoenix Theatre, and Ballet Arizona - which provide facilities spaces, curricula, and faculty for its drama and dance programs.
Quick Facts: ASA has been labeled an "excelling" school since 2003 and was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, by the US Department of Education in 2005. Historically, 100% of ASA sophomores have met or exceeded standards on all portions of the AIMS test on the first attempt. Additionally, 95% of ASA graduates pursue higher education immediately following high school . Student academic achievements include: Presidential, Flinn, National Merit, and Arizona Community Foundation Scholars.
