Building on Excellence Capital Campaign

Arizona School for the Arts is in the midst of a multi-phased, $26.7 million initiative to establish a permanent campus of its own. Already, the School has secured $10.5 million toward the total goal and has completed the first two phases of expansion:

• Phase One: With support from bond funding in 2008, ASA purchased ASA Main located at 1410 North Third Street on the corner of Willetta and Third Streets, as well as ASA McDowell North located at 215 East McDowell.
• Phase Two: ASA has completed the renovations on ASA Main which now houses administrative offices and 16 new classrooms.

ASA now seeks an additional $6 million in private philanthropic funding for Phase Three of the initiative:

• Phase Three:
  
  • Renovations to ASA McDowell North, were completed in August 2011, creating thirteen classrooms, four choir rooms, four drama rooms, and two ballet studios and enabled ASA to vacate most leased facilities.
  • The undeveloped property at the corner of McDowell Road and Third Street was purchased.
  • Construction of a new classroom building, ASA McDowell South, on Second Street and McDowell to be completed in March 2012 will enable ASA to vacate all leased facilities.
• Future Phases: Estimated to cost $10.2 million will enable additional buildings to be constructed on campus over time. The School's master plan is to eventually build out the campus with new classroom buildings, an assembly space, and, potentially, a performing space. The time frame for these phases has not yet been determined.

Transforming the existing facility and grounds into a vibrant school campus will enhance our students' learning environment. These improvements are urgently needed because the School's enrollment is growing at the same time that the leases on its current facilities are ending.
